How a Weekly Reset Routine Changed My Mental Health

By

A year ago, I was overwhelmed almost every Sunday night.

Instead of feeling rested, I felt anxious about the week ahead — mentally cluttered, emotionally drained, and constantly “behind.” I was stuck in survival mode, always reacting, never resetting. Then I discovered the concept of a weekly reset routine, and slowly, everything started to shift.

This post isn’t just about productivity — it’s about peace. About taking time to care for your mind, your space, and your energy before Monday shows up. Here’s how my weekly reset changed my mental health — and how you can build your own.

What Is a Weekly Reset?

A weekly reset is a dedicated time to check in with yourself and intentionally prepare for the week ahead. It’s not a chore list — it’s a ritual. A grounding pause between one week and the next.

My Weekly Reset Routine

Everyone’s reset looks different, but here’s what mine usually includes:

1. Resetting My Space

I do a quick home tidy-up — dishes, laundry, clearing surfaces. When my physical space feels clear, so does my head.

2. Reflecting on My Week

I ask myself simple questions:

  • What went well?
  • What drained me?
  • What do I want to change?

This turns experience into wisdom — and stress into action.

3. Resetting My Mind

Sometimes this means journaling, sometimes just 10 minutes of silence. Breathing deeply. Closing tabs — in my browser and my brain.

4. Planning the Week Ahead

I fill out my Weekly Reset Planner (grab yours below!). I set 3 main goals, block time for self-care, and leave white space for rest. Planning with kindness is the key.

5. Doing Something That Fills Me

A slow walk. Baking carrot cake. Watching a comfort show. I end the reset with something soft, not just something “productive.”

What’s Changed for Me

  • I feel mentally lighter going into Monday.
  • I’m more present during the week — because I already made space for what matters.
  • My emotional ups and downs feel less extreme. I’m more in tune with what I need.

It’s not about being perfect. Some weeks I only do part of it. But the intention? That always matters.
